Category: spirit contact

Not only do I have a new book coming out with this title (release date is 10 July!) but I thought it was a good title for this blog too. Ghosts CAN be distracting, especially if you don’t know what to do when one is bothering you … or scaring you as the case may be! Fact is, ghosts are everywhere, or their ENERGY is anyway, and that is because in the world of spirit…there is only HERE. What we perceive as space is nothing more than a different level of awareness over “there”!

In our realm (physical life), ghosts are actually energy from the past. You can’t interact with a ghost. You can’t communicate with it. You can sometimes see it and you can quite often “feel” it (sense their energy) and sometimes you can even hear it, but that’s about the extent of it. Despite what all the ghost-hunting television shows might lead you to believe, haunted locations are created by heightened emotional energy from people in a PAST event. They are not hang-outs for dead people who are waiting to scare us or talk to us!

The very essence of who we are is beings of energy and when our emotions are heightened our psyche’s energy level becomes so strong it can transcend time. Meaning it can be sensed by people in the future, who think they are encountering a ghost! I guess in a way they are since the people involved are dead (to us they are anyway).

It’s a complicated issue but let me try to explain by example. When someone is murdered (in a PAST event) and we are in the location where it happened, we can often pick up on the heightened emotions of the victim (and sometimes even the murderer!). We can do that because we are energy too and energy detects energy. So anyway, in situations like that (a murder), emotions are often highly charged and the energy generated can sometimes be picked up by others at a later time. It’s because of situations like this that haunted locations often make people uncomfortable. Given that, it’s no wonder they are scary places. You are, after all, tapping into the emotions of someone being murdered (or of someone doing the murdering) and either way it’s not a good feeling. Communicating with the “ghosts” in this kind of haunting is not possible. What you can do, however, is learn what happened. Psychics are great at this and you often see them in action on the ghost-hunting shows.

Now, if the murder took place in a building and it’s still standing, then people usually consider the building haunted, but get this, even if the building is destroyed the energy is still there because the location hasn’t changed, just what’s in the location. That’s why new buildings can be “haunted”, because they are built on the same spot where a highly charged situation took place.

Even knowing what a ghost is, they are still scary, certainly spooky, usually uncomfortable but not dangerous. They cannot hurt you in any way.

There are some hauntings where people think a past owner of a house was so fond of it they stayed there after they died. Not so. What is being detected in that situation is the fondness someone felt for the place (strong feelings of love also heightens emotions). Besides, they are STILL THERE because physics tells us that the past and present coexist!

Paranormal writers use the instances stated above to create tension and to raise the “spook” factor of a ghost story. I use it in my books as well. My main character in the Tess Schafer-Medium series (click the link if you are interested in checking them out!) understands that ghosts can do no harm and does what she can to ease the fear of the other characters in her story. One thing for sure, those situations certainly make for great ghost stories!

Now a SPIRIT is a whole different ballgame. Spirits are dead people who enter our realm of consciousness in order to communicate with us. Example: Miss Spooks dies and though she no longer has a physical body, she still exists as Miss Spooks, keeping all her memories and personality traits (though being “dead” is sure to put a whole new perspective on things!). So now she finds herself “over there” and wants to communicate with the living. Those are the spirits you can interact with.

As explained above, the biggest difference between a ghost and a spirit is the fact you can only communicate and interact with a spirit. Communications with them are usually a good experience. They are eager to talk with us and they often want to get messages across to those they care about…or to anyone that will “hear” them!

Spirits who hold strong negative emotions, however, have some unresolved issues and interactions with them are not so pleasant. They haven’t yet made peace with their new circumstances and they are the ones most often responsible for active hauntings. Poltergeists (negative entities) are attracted to those kinds of spirits and since they can move things around, they CAN be dangerous. Since like attracts like, they are attracted to the negative emotions of a troubled soul and they use those poor souls to get through to our physical reality. It isn’t the actual dead person that is posing a danger.

Negative entities are hard to explain but they are part of the spirit world and they lurk in the shadows of the afterlife. Most dark entities never were physical beings! But they can be a nasty influence and create confusion for a spirit with unresolved issues.

Now, even in cases involving a poltergeist, that doesn’t mean you are in danger. It just means that you need to be cautious. Reacting with anger, fear, hatred (any negative emotion) will “feed” their energy. Some of the BEST things to do when negative spirit activity is occurring are to pray (asking a higher power for protection), invoke your spiritual light to protect you (imagine a light shining IN and AROUND you), ask angels for protection and above all, stay calm (as best as you can anyway!).

As for Angels, they are in abundance and are absolutely everywhere. Best of all, they are quick to help whenever they are asked, so ASK!!

Given the scary nature of poltergeists, I use them in my books because having negative spirit energy raises the fear-factor in a story. Seriously, it is a good plot device for a ghost story. I don’t, however, make it the MAJOR plot device! Although my books are considered “horror” it’s only because ghosts are involved and not because they are horrific and gory.

The message I try the hardest to convey in all of my books is that here in the physical world, WE are in charge. Not only that but we have all we need to stay safe and protected from negative spirit energy. Our personal spiritual power is more than sufficient to keep us safe! Isn’t that comforting to know?

Now as I mentioned earlier, it sometimes happens that there are issues that went on here in the physical world that follow someone into the afterlife. Those are unresolved issues and spirits are so affected by this they will do whatever they can to communicate with us in order to find some closure. THIS is what I use most often as a plot for my books. To me, those sorts of circumstances make the best ghost stories.

More often than not, though, spirits are loved ones trying to communicate that they are well, they are happy and they don’t want their loved ones to be sad. No matter the circumstance of their death, most people are very pleasantly surprised when they cross over and learn the truth of things. In fact, they are so excited they want to share their amazing discovery with their loved ones!

Being physically dead does not break attachments though it is a different sort of attachment. They still LOVE those they were close to in physical life but they feel no sense of ownership. A deceased husband (for instance) isn’t going to be like “Hey! That’s MY woman you are moving in on!” (when another man develops an attachment for his wife). And he certainly does not think his wife is betraying him by caring for another man!

One thing I find most comforting is that loved ones who have passed are still connected to us and just thinking about them pulls them into our realm of consciousness. Whenever I think about my grandparents, for example, they are immediately with me and I sense them quite strongly. In fact, they often give me a sign of some sort to validate the experience!

Seriously, by focusing on someone who has passed into spirit, you draw them to you (because in truth, they aren’t “far” from you at all). The biggest frustration for those in spirit is not getting through to loved ones. But, they do what they can. They might make their picture fall or they might put something in an odd place so that when you find it, you’ll think of them and maybe even realize it was them that put it there. They might invoke a smell that you associate with them such as a flower they loved, a perfume they wore or a tobacco they smoked.

They LOVE it when loved ones go to a medium or turn to other means of communication … table tipping, Ouija, automatic writing (to name a few)! As for mediums, they are usually inundated with spirits trying to get through to loved ones here in our physical reality. My Tess Schafer character deals with this and I love her ability, her attitude and the way in which she handles things. I learn from her all the time! (smile)

So anyway, I wanted to write this post in celebration of my newest Tess Schafer-Medium book … aptly named Distracting Ghosts (you can click the link to check out the synopsis and even preorder if you are interested) and I’m dedicating it to my nephew Matt who died while I was writing the story. I thought about him so much while writing it and though the story has nothing to do with him, his death changed me in some way and that certainly has had some influence on my storytelling. I feel him around and he’s given lots of indications of his presence. Gone physically but not gone spiritually. Ahh, Matt, why did you have to leave us so soon?

Until next time, may your life be moving ever onward and upward. Peace out.

It’s been quite a while since I last posted and as usual it’s because there’s been a lot going on! My life gets busier and busier. It also seems to be getting harder. Definitely not easier. The older we get, the more we must deal with, especially when it comes to the loss of loved ones. My last blog post was about the sudden loss of my young nephew. We are still dealing with that, our grief, our shock and disbelief and most of all…MISSING his physical presence in our lives. Since then I’ve received countless messages from people in a similar situation…they lost a loved one and now they want to connect with their spirit. They NEED to KNOW for absolute SURE that their loved one is okay.

I am here to tell you this…this I KNOW: our loved ones in spirit do NOT forget about us and they sure as heck to not LEAVE us. They just don’t. They CAN’T because we are all connected spiritually to each other. We share in the same essence of LIFE…the spiritual force of GOD. Now we have many names for God and it doesn’t matter what name is used…he/she/it/Universal Force/Knowing One/Great Spirit/Allah…etc. It all boils down to the same thing. Argue with me if you will and it matters not. It is what it is. Bold statement to make but I’m feeling bold today. I write what spirit moves me to write and today spirit (God) is telling me to write this. So I did.

I have lost many loved ones from physical life…to include many pets!…and even knowing they are in spirit, LIVING on and by no means gone, I still miss them. I still grief for the loss of their physical presence. I offer myself comfort by imagining them in spirit as I expect them to be…gloriously happy! It gives me some measure of peace but doesn’t take away the disappointment I feel for no longer sharing physical life with them.

I must remind you of this…we AGREED to these terms when we entered this life. We KNEW the score, what it would be like to come here, the fact that we were not going to be happy all the time and living a life filled with riches, our every want satisfied. We had that OVER THERE (on the “other side” as we like to call it). We entered this life to experience things…feelings of all types, conditions of all sorts. Some were born to feel what it’s like to be rich and famous, to have anything they want, others were born to experience what it is like to have NOTHING. Whatever life you are living…THAT IS WHAT YOU WERE BORN TO EXPERIENCE. Don’t like it? CHANGE it. Easy to say, difficult to do! Actually, to be honest, it isn’t difficult to change the conditions of your life but it is NEARLY impossible to change your MINDS about it! We THINK we are stuck with the life we are leading and so we are indeed stuck. Nothing is hard unless we make it hard. Being human, conditioned to believe as we do, we make everything HARD! We hear about rags-to-riches stories and we hear about miracles and we think…yeah, that won’t happen to me. And so it doesn’t. Goodness…I am sounding a bit like the people who wrote “The Secret” and how the “law of attraction” can work for you!  But you know what? That particular law has worked for countless people! People who overcame the limitations of their minds to experience the change they WANTED. I am here to tell you this…I am struggling right along with you!

I think there is nothing more disappointing than to KNOW something and yet not put that knowledge to use! Example. I am a writer. I’ve wanted to write since I was eight years old. That’s when I wrote my very first story (which I still remember quite well!!). Since that first story, I’ve been OBSESSED with writing. There was a time when I couldn’t STAND seeing a blank paper or computer screen in front of me…I HAD to fill them with words, stories! I am CONSTANTLY making up stories in my head. This obsession tells me that I was BORN TO BE A WRITER! This I KNOW. Yet, and get this, I didn’t publish my first book until I was 48 years old! What?!!!! True story. AND I did it myself. Rejection letters from literary agents nearly destroyed my belief that being a writer was my life calling! Then along came Amazon with the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) program and suddenly there was no obstacle left to achieving my dream. I do believe that Amazon’s self-publishing program was created to help all of us writers realize a dream. Great, wonderful. Now my dreams have changed a bit and I am looking for READERS! (sigh) Once we reach one goal, we immediately make another, one a bit more challenging than the last! That’s not a bad thing, we are SUPPOSED to be doing that, but golly gee, if only things could get easier once in a while! So here’s my point: I KNOW I was meant to be a writer and I am. I write. I have NINE published books. It matters not that I published them myself or with a small independent publisher. I have PHYSICAL books that I can hold and that were created by me! Yay! Hurrah! BUT (and here’s the kicker) now I want readers to read my books! Not just because I believe my books can help them in many ways but because I want to make a living from doing what I love (seriously, don’t we all?). I don’t expect nor want a lavish life, just a comfortable one where I’m not constantly struggling to pay bills! I’m not out to be greedy. I don’t want much…I just want to lead a comfortable life and I want to have the ability to help others when they need a little help. I KNOW this is possible. I KNOW that if I can just force my limited-thinking brain to accept that this is NOT unreasonable, then I will find all the readers I want for my books! And sometimes it’s even happened. And then for some reason, I put the brakes on the whole thing. Ugh! WHY do I do that?

As much as I believe my stories will help people in some way…by showing them how to connect with spirit and even deal with all the aspects of dealing with spirit…I start second-guessing my ability, my stories, my readers and so on and so on. I will get a five-star, glowing review for one of my books and will be over the moon about it and then I will get a scathing one-star review and go plummeting back to earth, crash landing into despair and muddling about there until another five-star review pulls me out of the mess. It’s exhausting and it’s annoying. I don’t know why I can’t get it through my head that my stories are worthy of being read. They MUST be or they wouldn’t be in existence. It’s that nasty little voice that sneaks into my mind telling me that there are lots of things in existence that seem to have no purpose that causes all the problems. THAT voice, my dear friends, is our EGO. We all were saddled with one…a requirement to enter the earth plane and experience physical existence. Our Ego tears us down, builds us up, determines what we believe, don’t believe, accept, don’t accept, love, hate…etc. It’s a big, big deal to learn how to live peacefully with our Ego. It keeps us grounded in disbelief or sends us flying into flights of fancy and sometimes, when we get it right, we live the life we want! If only I could figure out that last bit on a regular basis! (sigh)

So anyway, here we are. Living a life that some of us are happy with and some of us aren’t. For the most part I’m pretty happy with my life. BUT, I do wish my books were best sellers! (smile) I’m still working on making that dream a reality. I’m not sure why my Ego keeps putting the brakes on that particular dream. I guess it’s a life lesson I have not yet mastered (obviously). Not too long ago I had a Bookbub promotion for my book NO MATTER WHAT. The story is based on reincarnation…which I DO believe in by the way! I wanted to show HOW reincarnation works and how it affects our life and I wanted to show that through a story. That promotion led to over 19,000 ebook downloads! My book made it to the number ONE slot for “Free books” in the Kindle store. I was over the moon excited! Then the promotion was over and the downloads plummeted to just a few books and then down to even fewer books and here I am, back where I started, wondering if I will ever “make it” as a writer. So yeah, I get it about how hard it is to change the conditions of our life. The upside is this: I KNOW it will eventually change, I just have to figure out HOW to make the change. Once I figure it all out, I’ll let ya know how I did it!

So back to our loved ones in spirit. There are many “there” (I put that in parenthesis because being in spirit means to be in a different state of consciousness, a different dimension of experience and not a physical location far from us) that I love and miss. My grandparents are two of them…my Nana and Grampy. I adored them. I loved them with my whole heart and mind and soul. I still do! Their passing into spirit was the hardest, saddest periods of my life. I have other times like that ahead and I dread it. I don’t have any easier time dealing with loss than those who don’t believe they can connect with spirits. As many times as I’ve connected with my Nana and Grampy and many others, I still struggle with my feelings of missing them. Despite KNOWING they are fine and connecting with them many times, I want what we all want…their physical presence. I have to tell you, though, that I’ve had some amazing experiences and continue to get them. My grandparents come through for me all the time. I think about them so much that they enter my consciousness often and give me physical signs of their presence. It’s quite comforting and I love knowing they are around…but I still miss them in the physical sense.

What I am trying to convey in this post is this: No matter how limiting your mind (Ego, belief), you CAN connect with your loved ones in spirit and you CAN change the conditions of your life. You CAN. We all…each and every single one of us…have the ability to connect with spirit and live the life we want. It’s DOING it that’s the problem. You’d think connecting once would make it easier to connect again but it isn’t. Not if your Ego, belief, is creating a problem. Like for me with my books. You’d think making it to the NUMBER ONE slot on Amazon’s best seller list would make it easier to do it again and even stay there but no, that’s not the case. Something happens to make me doubt the situation (like a scathing review!) and sales plummet! As for connecting with spirit, I’ve done it enough that I don’t have many problems with it anymore. Not for myself anyway. I shy away from connecting with loved ones for others. Not because I don’t believe I can but because I worry that maybe I’m not bringing the message through properly. After all, communicating with spirit is not done the same way as we communicate with each other in the physical world. Spirit connects with us through our consciousness and they do it through EMOTION and that is conveyed symbolically. Learning the process takes lots of practice. I have it down pretty good with my Nana and Grampy but when it comes to other people, I get a little shy about it. Meaning my Ego gets in the way! Annoying.

With all the messages I get from grieving people pleading with me to help them connect with someone they have lost physically, I have this to say: You CAN connect with them and are doing it more often than you think! For example, those dreams you get about a loved one in spirit…quite REAL! BUT, let me caution you here…if you have a dream where they are suffering…that is not from them! That is your EGO getting in the way, making you think they are suffering. I promise you, your loved ones are NOT suffering! If you LOVED them, they are LOVED by GOD as well. Your love comes from the Divine Source. If YOU wouldn’t make them suffer, God sure as heck won’t either! I promise you. Now, as for people who do evil deeds…they will totally regret those deeds once they are back in their spiritual form and consciously connected with their soul. They will be very sad for what they did and they’ll be back (via reincarnation) to make amends. That’s how it works. Hard as that might be to accept, even people who do evil deeds have people who love them! They don’t love what they DID but they love the PERSON (their soul…which is pure).

I don’t want to ramble on too much more and make this post too long so I’m going to bring this to a close. In my next post…which I promise won’t take forever to be published…I will help you understand your connection to spirit and how you can recognize when your loved ones in spirit are with you! Until then, I send you loving light and peace, I wish for you to be showered in love and I pray you figure out how to live the life you WANT! More than anything, I wish for those who are suffering grief to feel some measure of peace in knowing their loved ones are NEAR and they are truly okay. More than okay. They are THRIVING with the life force of God. Blessings to all!! May your lives move ever Onward and upward!!

In my Tess Schafer-Medium series, the main character, Tess, is just what the series’ title claims…a medium, BUT she also has regular communications with her Spirit Guide Sheila. This aspect of Tess’s character is an integral part of who she is. Although speaking to “the dead” is her special ability, it’s her regular communications with Sheila that are more indicative as to her spiritual openness.

We all have Spirit Guides and Guardian Angels. Every single one of us. In fact, we have more than one. How many Spirit Guides and Guardian Angels are assigned to us, I can’t say and wouldn’t even try to guess. The number varies for each of us. Regardless of how many there are, only one is considered the “leader” of each team and that is the one you would interact with the most. If, that is, you choose to do that.

Guardian Angels do as their name implies…they watch over you and are there for you when you need them. They will also greet you when you “cross over” into spirit. Sometimes they might make contact with you but typically it is your Spirit Guide that is your main point of contact when communicating with spirit.

One point I want to make about Guardian Angels is that you MUST ASK for their help if you want it. This is important to know because they cannot intervene or assist you without your permission.

Spirit Guides are actually assigned to you before you are even born. In fact, you worked closely with your Spirit Guides before you entered into this life existence. You had goals and experiences you wanted to encounter here in the physical world and your Spirit Guides do their best to help keep you on track with those goals. Other things like Numerology, Palmistry, Astrology, Tarot cards and the like are tools given to us to help achieve those goals. Sadly, many of us ignore these tools. If we’d pay more attention to them, our life path would move along much more smoothly.

In my book series, whenever Tess wants to talk to Sheila, she just starts talking (usually she runs a dialogue in her head but as we are wont to do, sometimes she talks out loud). Whenever she is in communications with Sheila, she never has to wait for a reply. Now, it’s true that they aren’t usually the answers she WANTS but our Spirit Guides aren’t here to do all the work for us. How are we to learn anything if they just give us all the answers? What they are is our support team, our cheering section if you will. They also help us to see all sides of an issue so there is that!

I can tell you this…they do not and will not tell us what to do. We have FREE WILL for a reason. This is OUR life to live and we are master of our OWN destiny. However, since they know our soul’s aspirations, our purpose for living, they are great sounding boards and are asolutely the best ones to turn to when working through a problem or concern!

Although my book series is fiction, I wanted to show through story-telling what it is like to be a medium and I wanted to expose readers to other spiritual related things…like symbolism, spirit contact and the various divining tools we can all use to help us navigate through the mystery, the drama and the frustrations of life.

In this post, I wanted to give some pointers on how you can communicate with your Spirit Guide. Why? Because no one will be more helpful in getting you to your life goals or through a difficult situation. Another grand thing is your Spirit Guide will love you no matter what. Your Spirit Guide will not be disappointed with your decisions and choices and mistakes. Your Spirit Guide will ALWAYS be your personal, devoted champion.

So how do you communicate? It’s so darn easy it’s ridiculous. Practically unbelievable. But true.

  1. It must be clear in your mind that you are opening up communications between you and your guide. INTENT determines so many things for us!
  2. Start a conversation, directing the question or comment to your guide.
  3. The response will be so quick you’ll think it’s just you talking to yourself. Fine. So what? Go with it! Your Spirit Guide speaks to you through your own thought processes and that’s how it feels, like you are talking to yourself…only you’ll notice a subtle difference to your internal voice. Another thing you’ll notice is their responses are never critical, discouraging or disappointing. It’s ALWAYS a positive experience communicating with your guide. Always. No exceptions. If you are getting responses that make you feel bad or fearful or down then it isn’t your Spirit Guide talking to you, it’s your Ego. We all have an Ego, it’s an essential part of who we are as a human personality. The Ego’s job is to keep us grounded in the reality of this world! Honestly, without an Ego we’d all be wanting to go back to spirit and we’d have said goodbye to this hard life long ago!
  4. If your Ego intervenes, give it something to focus on…music, a candle’s flickering flame, an object, whatever you can find, then try again. Mostly you just have to trust that you’ll hear from your guide, and if you hear any criticism over it, ignore it and wait for the loving voice to start talking! Once you hear that, you’ll be so focused on it that your Ego will be silent.

Now, there are many others who go through rituals to do this. That’s fine for them. If you need a ritual to help prepare you and authenticate the experience then do a search on how others do it. This is how I do it. I’ve tried many other ways and finally figured out (with the help of my guide) that I didn’t need to complicate the process. Thank goodness because sometimes I don’t have a lot of time to go through rituals…I need to talk and talk NOW!

Spiritual interaction is seriously that easy. It’s so easy we find it hard to believe and accept. And that right there is why so many people miss out on developing a close, open relationship with their guides.

Tess shows the process quite well in her stories and I love writing those scenes. I even love that Tess rejected her Spirit Guide for a while when things in her life went horribly bad (in her first book Be Still, My Love). That’s what many of us “humans” do…we get discouraged and we reject the things we thought should have made it better. But the thing is…her Spirit Guide didn’t get upset with her over the rejection and years of silence…because they don’t feel negative emotions. WE do. They do not. The more I write the Tess Schafer-Medium books, the more I am learning about the spirit world and how it all works. This, I think, is spirit’s gift to me! (smile)

So that’s it! Hope it helps! Let me know if it worked for you or share what does work for you…maybe it will help another reader!! We should all be helping each other in some way or another, right?

Just so you know…I plan on writing more posts explaining different aspects of the spiritual processes brought up in my books, just as I did with this one! So if you are interested, be sure to follow my blog. Also, if you are interested in getting a newsletter from me once in a while, please mention it in the comments and I’ll be sure to let you know how to sign up for it when I get it ready!

Until next time…Onward and Upward! May many blessings be showered upon you.

Ghost Trouble (ebook) 5-7-14Hello everyone! I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t devoted the time I need to devote to this blog. So, for the rest of the week…that is going to change. I have a lot of pending comments and I’m going to try really hard to answer as many of them as I can. It’s something I can’t hurry through because I want to be sure to formulate the best reply I possibly can. People write in with so many heart-wrenching and heart-warming (and sometimes really SCARY!) stories and since they took the time to write to me…I need to take the time to write back. So, if you’ve left a comment and I haven’t responded yet…well, I’m going to work on that over the next few days. Promise!

So anyway, I’ve been working on my latest book, Ghost Trouble! This story is told through the “hero’s” viewpoint (go Kade!) and I enjoyed writing this one a lot! I got to see the whole ghostly business from another perspective and that made it interesting in a different way that Tess makes it interesting. Speaking of Tess, she  is just so talented with her interactions with the other side that I thought it would be cool to see what happens when someone NOT of the medium-type variety has to deal with paranormal phenomena. It was really quite interesting.

For those of you who haven’t read my Tess Schafer-Medium series, they are fictional books but I really try to incorporate the things I’ve learned about the paranormal into the stories. I try to make them as realistic as I can without being boring! (I hope!!!) Of course, with fiction, one can take some liberal license to pepper the story a little more colorfully than what people might REALLY encounter, but…well, you never know!

People ask me if any of the stuff in the stories ever happened. Well, I can tell you this…I base SOME of it on personal experience and some of it on experiences others have shared with me. Additionally, I feel like I just sort of “plug in” to the spirit world when I sit down to work on a story. Without any planning, the story unfolds and holds me in its thrall … making me type as fast as I can to find out what is going to happen next! I am as surprised as anyone by the revelations as they occur. Really. Honest to God.

Speaking of God, I’ve received a few upset reviews because of Tess’s “religious” (I think of them as SPIRITUAL) beliefs. Well, I’m not apologizing for including her spiritual perspective in the stories. Tess believes in God. That is who she is as a character. She doesn’t really fit in any particular religious mold, though if I had to place her in one…I’d say she is closer to being a Spiritualist than anything. I, myself, go to a Spiritualist church (though I haven’t gone lately and need to get on it!!!). Like Tess, I believe in the afterlife and that we have the ability to communicate with those who have passed over. I believe that because I’ve done it. I’ve done it through automatic writing, through table tipping, through the Ouija, and through channeling. All have been amazing experiences and (thankfully) I’ve never had anything as terrifying and scary as Tess has had to deal with!

I do, on occasion, have pretty intense dreams…some of them terrifying…but in all of them I wrestle with spirits and come out of it unscathed. I think that is spirit’s way of telling me that I’m doing okay. That my character has it right…you CAN interact with the other side and do it SAFELY. BUT, you need to know what you are doing and you need to take proper precautions to ensure negative entities don’t come through. Because they’ll try. They will. Causing trouble is what they do (which is why poor Kade is dealing with “Ghost Trouble” as a matter of fact!).

However…MY belief is that NOTHING is stronger or more powerful than God, the Infinite Intelligence, the Creator, the Knowing One…or whatever you want to call it. The label placed on the Almighty One doesn’t matter.

I am just amazed that three years ago the Tess Schafer-Medium series didn’t exist. Not until about June of 2011 when I wrote the first in the series, “Be Still, My Love”. Now here I am on book 5!!

My supernatural thriller “No Matter What” was influenced by my teenage years and all the stuff I was learning about the paranormal while trying to figure out what was going on in that haunted old farmhouse I lived in! I first wrote it when I was in my mid teens. I finished it when I was in my forties! It’s my favorite of all my books but I have to say that Tess and Kade have a special place in my heart as well. They take me on their ghostly journeys and spirit is helping me write them. It’s very cool.

So, anyway, this is a short post. I just wanted to share what was going on in my life. I won’t make all my posts about my books but since I’m celebrating yet another publication, I just wanted to include links to them all in this one. If anyone is curious about future book releases, you can just follow this blog or “like” me on Facebook! I will keep people updated on my author life even as I continue to share other things that interest me, especially if it involves the paranormal world!

Okay, that’s it for today! May you all be showered with joyous blessings!!

20140106_112216So we are nearly a week into 2014 and I’ve pretty much munched my way through all the baking goodies, the candy and the too-rich-to-be-consumed-all-year-long drinks. I’ve packed on more poundage this past year than ever before but that’s because I’ve actually kicked my writing career into overdrive…meaning I did a LOT of sitting! Although I’ve tried doing tummy crunches while sitting at the computer, I get so involved in what I’m doing that I eventually forget about that and then when I remember again, the motivation is gone. I like to sit and munch while I work on my stories. Now that I’m determined…absolutely DETERMINED to stick with a more healthy lifestyle, I don’t know how I’m going to fill that void! Even so…I’m going to do this. I have never weighed this much in my life. Not even with my third pregnancy (when I gained the most) and was ready to pop did I weigh this much. My clothes are tight and I’m tired all the time. I’ve been wearing a lot of “gym clothes” without the benefits of their intended usage!

Yes, I have fallen into a very bad rut. And now that I’ve managed to devour all the holiday goodies I couldn’t bring myself to throw away, it is time to get serious on this issue of weight LOSS. Also, I want to work more on my interactions with spirit! I’ve been so busy writing (which to me is an interaction with spirit but on a different level) that I haven’t given time to anything else! Including my poor house. I figure part of my exercise regimen will be house cleaning. Of the strenuous kind. Not the halfhearted stuff I’ve done here and there up to this point. Those rugs are getting SCRUBBED. Those floors are going to SHINE. And all that dust build up is not going to be ignored any longer!

So, it’s out with the old way of life…lots of sitting, lots of eating, lots of turning a blind eye to my house, lots of procrastination…and on with the new: exercise, less eating and more healthy choices when I do, housework and spirit contact. The last part is kind of an odd ball isn’t it? But I do want more connection with my angels, my spirit guide, the universe (God), and whoever else wants to come through (of the positive and good kind of course!).

So, to make myself stick to this, I have stated my intentions to all of you. Now, since I don’t want to come across as a failure, I better stand behind my convictions and do it. From time to time I will check in with ya’ll and let you know my progress. From my weight struggles, to my housework to my spirit contact…I’ll share it all. And if any of you want to join in and share with me your own resolutions and how you are doing…PLEASE do so! WE CAN DO THIS! Right? All it takes is a plan and determination to follow through. Setting goals…that is KEY. Just doing something isn’t enough. We are humans and we humans need goals. We need to strive towards the completion of something. Otherwise, we are aimless. We lose focus when we are aimless. And then we lose our determination. Depressed, we fall back into the same rut we were hoping to get out of. That is not going to happen this time. No sirree.

So, I rounded up all the fattening stuff in my house and I put it away. My sensibility won’t let me throw perfectly good stuff away so I am putting it out of reach. To the shed, in sealed containers it goes. After my morning tea (no coffee for me because I can’t drink unsweetened coffee!), I exercise for at LEAST a half hour then do something around the house. After appointed tasks are complete, I’ll have a light snack. Some computer work and writing then lunch. Some stretches (important to do when working on the computer for hours and hours!) and a little more housework then back to writing (I’ve two books I am in the process of completing!). Sometime in the afternoon, when I have some peace and quiet (meaning no grandkids running under feet!)…I will do something with spirit. Meditation for starters! I’ll record my results then start preparations for a healthy dinner! After that, a little relaxation should be well earned. My husband likes to exercise in the evening so I’ll toss in an hour of that with him then head back to writing for a bit. That is going to be the gist of my day. Once I achieve my goal of 25 pounds LOST, I will adjust things just a little. Maybe add coffee back into my life…but with a lot less sugar! I’m hoping, though, that I develop new habits that are better for my body and my mind. Habits, after all, are much easier to follow!

So on day six of the year 2014, I begin my new way of life. I can feel the spirit world all aflutter because they know how much they are going to be part of this plan. Things should get mighty interesting around here. That’s all I’ve got to say about it.

What say you? Any New Year Resolutions you want to share with us? Want to join me in this quest to “make it happen”? State your plan and then check in with us periodically to let us know how you are doing. Let’s bolster each other up. And if you are hoping to make contact with spirit…I can’t wait to learn how you went about it and how it all went down. Honestly, I’ll share with you everything I do in that respect. I’ll try an experiment and then let you know the results. Maybe you will try it too and share yours. This could get really, really interesting.

So, until I check in with you…say a few days from now (no daily blogging for me, I already know I won’t be able to maintain that sort of schedule. If anything, I MUST be realistic with my goals), I wish you all luck with whatever you have going on that you WANT going on!

Peace be with you. Happy New Year!! 2014 is going to be a great one for us. I just know it.

I’ve written a lot of posts (88 so far!) covering a variety of subjects involving paranormal subject matter and there’s some really good ones in among the mix that would help a lot of the people now writing in to me about their ghostly problems, concerns and fears. Although I worry that people will find my answers very repetitious, the answers to similar problems SHOULD be the same! Was I to answer similar questions with a different answer, then I would not be consistent with my beliefs or my advice!

I know it’s a lot of work to go prowling through older posts…time is precious and few of us have enough of it! So, I took the time to go through them for you, putting together a “one stop shop” on posts that might be of the most beneficial to the questions I keep receiving! And as to that…I LOVE hearing from you! I do. If I can help in any way…then I will do so. And if you can provide some insight, better yet!

When I answer the questions I receive on my blog, I don’t know what I’m going to say until I start typing it. I write what “spirit” moves me to write. This ensures the best possible answer I can give. After all, it’s coming from spirit so how can it be wrong? Now I’m not saying there are no other right answers, but I can only give the one that comes to me. Understand this: ANYTHING we are moved to create…be it a piece of art, a book, a poem, an answer to a question or whatever…ALL of it is inspiration from spirit!

In fact, now that I’ve mentioned it, let me take the time right now to thank the angels and spirits who help me out with that: THANK YOU, thank you!! I am honored and grateful for your help, love and support!”

Okay. Now back to YOU! The following is a roundup of posts you might find helpful!

Are you having ghostly problems and looking for ideas on vanquishing them? Here ya go:

“Encountering Ghosts and Vanquishing Them!”, “There’s a ghost in my house! Now what?”, and the following gives some tips on FINDING them too: “Ghost Hunting 101”

For those looking for an idea on how to communicate with spirits: “Now is the Time for Talking to Ghosts”“Eight Ways to Contact the Dead”, “Want to meet a ghost?”, “Inspirational Writing: How and Why”,(inspirational writing is also known as “automatic writing”), “5 Steps to Spirit Contact”, and “The Care and Handling of Spirit Contact”

How can you tell if a ghost is near? Well this post might help, it’s one of my most popular and has prompted a lot of comments: “12 Signs a Ghost is Near”

The above posts contain some of my best advice and most inspired writing!

And now I’d like to take some time to speak a word (or two!) about my books (for those who like to read!). My stories are fictional and have all been inspired in a “flash” of inspiration. The story ideas came to me quite suddenly and I went into a mad scramble to get them down in writing. I don’t plan them out (except Rosemary’s Ghosts. Although it came to me in a flash of sudden inspiration, the whole story came to me at once. So, I pretty much know the story before I even started writing it!). My Tess Schafer-Medium series (Be Still, My Love, Hidden Voices, Vanquishing Ghosts and the book I just mentioned, Rosemary’s Ghosts) is centered around…well, Tess Schafer, a 25-year-old medium. Her beliefs and the situations she encounters often reflect my own beliefs and my own encounters! Though works of fiction, they all contain information that involves the spirit world and how to interact/deal with them! My paranormal thriller, No Matter What is centered around reincarnation. It is a concept I believe in quite firmly. Especially after what I went through with my son. Here’s the link to a post in which I wrote about it “Reincarnation: Fact or Fiction”. I love all my stories and I thank spirit for the inspiration to write them but “No Matter What” is the one that is most special to me. It’s received some harsh reviews but it would…it’s quite controversial the ideas brought up in the story!

Speaking of reviews (left on Amazon), people have complained about my mention of God. How, I wonder, does one write about the paranormal and NOT bring up the subject of God? Pure horror books certainly. My stories are spooky and have scary elements to them but they are not HORRIFYING. Well, not for most of us. A few of the faint-at-heart have admitted to being scared while reading them!  So anyway, yes, my books mention God. Most of my characters (as well as me!) believes in God…a higher power, an infinite intelligence. Someone even suggested that I “leave God out of it” because he had no place in horror books!  Personally, I think that’s what going wrong in the world today…people are trying to “leave God out of it”!!!! Bad idea. Bad, bad idea!

I write the books that I write because there really isn’t any on the market like them. I’m proud to say that. I write the kinds of stories that someone like me would like to read. Because…well, I have to like what I’m writing or I’m not going to write it and it has to hold my interest or I’m not going to FINISH writing it! My interest is in the paranormal and so the stories I write are centered around that premise. Also, I’m not going to take God out of my books. So, if you don’t like the mention of beliefs about God, you might not want to read my stories! Or my blog for that matter!

If any of you have read any of my books…I ask you, “What did you think of them? Did I go overboard with the mention of God?”

Here’s the link to my author page on Amazon: Deborah J. Hughes Author Page. You can find a list of all my books there (or click on the book cover below!). I’d be happy and honored if you’d check them out! By the way, all but the cover for Be Still, My Love were created by the awesome Anya Kelley! I highly recommend her if you are an author looking for an affordable, talented cover artist! Be Still’s cover was created by the talented Jeff Bennington! He writes books in the paranormal genre too!! Click on his name and check him out!

Okay, that’s it for now! Sending blessings and positive vibrations out to all!!

2012-10-26 20.43.06Come October, the general focus seems to sway toward all things spooky! Halloween is the last day of the month, yet it’s advertised from day one and sometimes before October even arrives! Although this is most often a time for terrifying movies, television shows and horror books, it doesn’t have to be all “horror, terror and gore, oh my!”

The fact is, Halloween evolved from ancient traditions concerning the after life! It’s supposed to be the time of year when the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest. Fortune Telling, Divination and Spirit Contact are all more easily done during this very interesting time of year. So, it’s understandable, given that, how the focus has evolved over time to what it is today.

Honestly, I am no different. I worked like crazy to get Rosemary’s Ghosts ready for release this month! But truly, it’s the perfect book for Halloween. Even if I have to say so myself. The thing is…my character Tess Schafer, a very gifted medium, understands the relevance of Halloween and that comes through in the story. Besides that, I love sharing what I’ve learned about the paranormal through story-telling. For instance…Tess and Rosemary (a poor, sweet lady being terrorized by ghosts!) have a session of table tipping!

Have you ever done any table tipping? Do you know what it is? It isn’t anything like “cow tipping” (which I’ve never done by the way!), if that’s what came to mind! Most people have heard of the Ouija board I’m sure. The thing about the Ouija is that is acts as a portal to the spirit world. Which is great for those wanting to communicate with spirit, BUT it can bring through all manner of entities. You have to operate it with responsibility and most people who “play” with this so-called “game” don’t understand that! Whenever you seek to interact with “spirit” (the other side), you should know what you are doing and maintain control of the situation. Otherwise, well…who knows what you’ll inadvertently bring through! There are bad, evil entities lurking “over there” just looking for an opportunity to lurk around HERE! But I digress…I want to talk about table tipping.

Unlike the Ouija board, tables do not act as portals to spirit. They are simply a “tool” if you will, for talking to spirit. So, table tipping is much safer. One word of caution though…you can still bring through negative entities if you open it up to “whoever wants to come through and talk…please do!” Always make it clear that you want to  talk to GOOD, LOVING, POSITIVE spirits. If you get a bad vibe, bad messages and bad behavior…END the session.  I’ve had strong “spirited” folks come through but nothing bad.

2013-10-26 05.34.58table tipping tableTable tipping is one of those activities perfect for Halloween time! Just get yourself a small table…round is best but a square one will do (I’ve used a card table with no problem). The legs should not be flush with the edges of the table. They CAN be flush, it will still work, but it’s EASIER for spirit energy to tip a table when the legs are not flush with the edges of the table. For people who haven’t done this before, are a little nervous about it and have skeptics in their midst, the legs NOT being flush will be much easier for the spirits to operate. Make it clear to everyone who is participating in the table-tipping session that you will only welcome good, loving, honest and positive spirits! It’s even best if you request certain ones…departed family members, friends or the like. I like to say a prayer at the beginning of each session…prayer promotes positive energy and keeps the negative vibes away. Once you are ready, gather around the table and lightly rest your hands flat upon it. Don’t push down and don’t hover your hands above it. I see some people in table-tipping sessions whose hands slide across the table as it moves…if the hands are sliding across the table then you are not resting your hands upon it! (to the left are some examples of tables…I’ve used both of these. The one on the right works great…my mother made it for me!! Cool huh?)

I’m no expert about spirit stuff, but I have my own thoughts about how I think things work and it’s my belief that those in spirit use our personal energy field to make the table move. Since we are here operating within a physical world, our energy is strong (it has to be in order for us to exist here!) and interacts with things of this world quite easily. Spirit, on the other hand, operates within the spirit world and so their energy is different. All energy has movement (vibration) and spirit energy is moving (vibrating) at an incredible rate…much, much faster than the energy that makes up our physical world. That’s why it’s hard to see them (they are moving too fast…think of a fan blade on high speed…can you see it? No!) But it’s not impossible. And that’s a different story.

So anyway, by placing your hands flat on the table, resting them there gently, your personal energy becomes connected to the table’s energy and the spirit coming through can easily manipulate it through you. When the table starts moving, you’ll “feel” a different sort of energy  and know something is going on! The table will move in such a way that you’ll think someone else at the table is doing it. The good thing about this is that you’ll KNOW for sure it wasn’t you doing it! If everyone at the table is being honest, then rest assured, they aren’t causing the table to move…spirit is doing the work! For some reason, whenever I’m involved in a table-tipping session, I laugh a lot. It’s all good energy and good, positive energy is uplifting, so laughter is fine. In fact, laughter raises your personal energy to a higher degree (increases your vibrational speed) and table-tipping becomes even easier! Singing helps to get the energy going strong as well.

Once the table starts moving…it will shake, shimmy and tip…then take charge of it. State your intentions…whether you want someone specific or not…and make it clear, again, that you will allow only positive spirit energy to come through. Then you set the “rules” for engagement. I do it this way: “We will ask you questions and we want you to tip the table once for yes responses and tip the table twice for no responses.” Now, you can change that around if you want but that’s how I do it. If you want to receive messages then you instruct the spirit to tip the table for each letter of the alphabet, stopping on the letter they want. It’s time consuming to get messages because you have to tip the table for each letter of every word in the message. Sometimes the spirits get so active and impatient that the table tips so fast it becomes confusing what letter they are trying to give!

Another thing the table will often do is tip toward someone operating it and rest against them. Gentle efforts to push the table’s legs back down to the floor will meet resistance. I call these moments “hugs”. It’s quite common for a loved one who has come through to give “hugs” and it’s really quite an emotional moment. Honestly, you can “feel” their energy. Sometimes the table will even “walk” across the floor … often heading towards someone not operating the table (they are either trying to let that person know they want to talk to them…or they might be wanting to give a hug!). The thing to remember is to not resist the table’s movements and not to help it either!

Most often the case will be that while a table is tipping out a message, the operators will get a strong feel for what the word is…even if only one letter has been completed. This is because the spirit is actually mingling with our energy and their messages will filter right into our thoughts. This is basically how a medium works…they allow spirits to come right on into their thoughts. The thing about those in spirit is they don’t really use WORDS once they cross over. Words are too limiting (and this eliminates all language barriers as well!). They communicate through feelings and so that’s why it’s hard sometimes to understand a message coming through. They are trying to convey a feeling to you and you are trying to put it into specific words.  This is also why symbols are often used (for medium or psychic work, and especially in dreams!). But you don’t have to worry about trying to interpret symbols or anything when you are table-tipping.

It’s all good fun, really! There SHOULD be lots of laughter and enjoyment. Interaction with spirit should be a POSITIVE experience.

Rosemary's Ghosts (angel) 10-19-13I wrote this post in celebration of the release of my book “Rosemary’s Ghosts” and focused it on table-tipping because my characters have a pretty cool table-tipping session in the story!

So, have any of you tried it? Are you going to? Tell us about it!!

Until next time, many blessings to all of you and Peace Out!

Oh, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

The ConjuringI love ghost stories and spooky movies so of course I had to go see The Conjuring. I read the book House of Darkness House of Light by Andrea Perron and though I wasn’t crazy over the writing style, I did enjoy the basic story and by this I mean the parts that actually involved the ghostly encounters. I thought there was a lot of stuff added into the book that didn’t need to be there…needless fluff…so I ended up skimming through a lot of it. But that is just the writer in me being overly critical I think. Then again, we all do it…criticize and skim or enjoy and savor! Since I am not into the literary, flowery sort of writing that Andrea used, I did not read volume two of this book series.

So anyway. The book “House of Darkness House of Light” was written by Andrea, one of the children of the family depicted in the movie, and it told a vastly different story than the one Hollywood presented (which was actually based on the Warren’s accounting of the haunting and not Andrea’s. The Warrens, by the way, were paranormal investigators and pretty big in their day!). I know Hollywood has to go over-the-top to hit it big in the box office, but it still disappoints me when they take the “nasty demon possesses body and goes on a killing spree” route. For me, the demon possession stuff ruined the movie though many others thought it added quite the thrill. My favorite parts were the beginning of the film. Although (here’s the critic in me again!) I thought it was rather slow at times and wished it would just get going already. Still, the subtle stuff that happens in real hauntings and then becomes more than subtle, that’s the stuff that grabs my attention and makes my imagination go haywire.

I don’t want to ruin the movie for anyone who hasn’t seen it, but since I’ve already mentioned the fact that a demon possession was involved, I just want to say that Andrea does not make her poor mother out to be as bad as all that in her book. Certainly she had problems and was quite influenced by the negative entity, but she did not try to kill her children. And really, if demons could do that sort of thing, don’t you think we’d hear about it? Have you ever heard of a demon taking over someone’s body and killing people anywhere but in the movies? Really, I want to know. Have you?

The problem with movies like “The Conjuring” is that it gives the paranormal world such a bad rap. Seriously, most of the spirits that make their way back into our realm of existence are not evil doers out to possess bodies. Many of them are just looking to make contact with loved ones they left behind. They want to reassure their grieving family and friends that they are in fact, quite fine. Better than fine. Awesome really! They want to offer comfort and hope and share the good news that the whole death thing is nothing to mourn over. I do have to add here, though, that there are some spirits who harbor negative feelings and though they can certainly INFLUENCE those they come near, to actually take possession of someone is not something they are looking to do. It does happen, however, on the rare occasion. Case histories exist concerning exorcisms that have really happened. But as I said, they are RARE and I think there are special circumstances about those cases.

I get a lot of comments on this blog…especially my post “12 Signs a Ghost is Near”… and I find that movies like “The Conjuring” concern many people that something like that could happen to them! After all, the movie states that it is based on a TRUE story! Key word here is “BASED”, meaning Hollywood can take creative license and do whatever they want with the ACTUAL story! The problem with this is that people don’t know what parts are actually true and so believe the possibility exists that ALL of it is true! That leads to instant fear when they suddenly have their own ghostly encounter. Even if they suspect the ghost is their loving gramma! The worry is that the haunting is going to graduate from gramma to an evil demon out to possess them! It’s too bad, really, because there is NOTHING more special than reconnecting with a loved one who has passed into spirit! It is one of the most PROFOUND experiences you can have in this physical life.

I often see a bluish light. I can see it with my eyes open but I see it more vividly when my eyes are closed. When I first started seeing it (early twenties), I wondered what it was but, for whatever reason, was too afraid to find out. It took me about ten years to finally get brave enough to allow the answer to come to me. Certainly I had asked mediums, shamans and anyone else who wanted to voice an opinion but I didn’t try to seek an answer myself. Until one night while I was mediating and trying to make contact with my spirit guide…who incidentally has the same name as my character’s spirit guide in the Tess Schafer-Medium series (Sheila!)…and I saw the blue light. I decided to stop being wary of it and sent out the message that I was ready to welcome it into my personal space. I didn’t force it to come closer (it always appeared to be just out of reach) and I didn’t try to mentally go after it. I simply waited. Suddenly the most overwhelming sense of LOVE just rushed over me, through me, around me – everywhere! It was my Nana. Gone to spirit for over twenty years, we had a LOT of catching up to do, and we did it all within minutes and without words. The spirit world is not limited to our mode of communicating through language. They communicate through feelings and it’s completely understandable, their message CLEAR! More so than words can ever convey. Honestly, once you label something with words then it must stay within the confines of those words and what you PERCEIVE them to mean. But when operating through FEELINGS, labels don’t have any role to play.

I now understand that the blue light is the energy field of a spirit! I was told once by an Indian shaman that spirits surrounded me. At the time the idea of it scared me to death! I was like “Do they watch me when I’m in the bathroom?”, do they watch me during other intimate moments that I don’t want to talk about in this blog? (smile) The idea of it did not sit well with me at all.

I’ve come to understand a lot about the spirit world over the years, through my contact with Sheila, other people, books, movies (not to mention some of the most profound dreams!) and I’m now understanding it that the spirit world doesn’t “see” us as we see with our physical eyes. They “see” us by our energy imprint and emotional body. So they don’t actually see our bodies while taking a shower (phew!). They sense our spirit, our energy field, much like we sense them when they are around.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “I just KNEW someone was near…that I wasn’t alone, I could feel them!” Of course we sense when spirits are around. At the very basic level, we are beings of energy. All energy affects any nearby energy and when you get close enough – zap! You really make contact! I’m no scientist and I don’t know much about how everything works, but I have a basic understanding on things that interest me (such as spirits, the spirit world and paranormal phenomena!) and I have my own thoughts and ideas concerning them (and where do you suppose ideas come from? Spirit!). My take on orbs for instance (small, light colored globes that often show up in photographs) is that they are the heart of a spiritual being – the center of their energy field. Camera’s send out this quick pulse of energy to capture a picture and the reaction that takes place when that energy pulse meets a spirit energy is the development of orbs in photos. It makes perfect sense to me in any case! So-called “experts” can argue the case against orbs all they want. I know for a fact that spirit beings (ghosts) do exist, and their energy is sometimes captured on film as orbs or other strange anomalies.

I think the whole Star Wars saga really captured my interest because I do believe that there is a “force” that exists and that we all can harness it and become like the Jedi Knights, if we only knew how! Honestly, Yoda knew exactly what he was talking about!  The Matrix was another movie to grab my attention because of its portrayal of the world being nothing more than an illusion. I think that movie has hit on the truth of the matter – our life is nothing more than a grand illusion! Unfortunately, that movie’s idea of “reality” totally sucked! How dreary their “real” world was! But when they plugged into the matrix, well, that offered endless possibilities! And it was THAT part of the movie that I loved most, for it’s sort of like how we are – spiritual beings “plugged” into the physical world! Given that, then everything we experience is completely under the control of our imagination! Unlike the movie, however, when we “unplug” from it (die) and our consciousness is refocused into the spirit world – well, it isn’t dreary at all, it is in fact quite an amazing, awesome, mind-boggling place!! So what the heck are we doing here anyway? Gotta be a reason why we “plugged” into this world and then proceeded to make mayhem! (sigh) You know, my belief is that we truly are suppose to figure out how to make heaven on earth. Instead, we seem to be masters at creating havoc and chaos! (another huge sigh).

So back to ghosts and all that. I think it should be a NORMAL part of our life to include the PARAnormal. Contacting our loved ones and continuing our relationship with them should be part of our life, no question! Oh, I imagine they have things to do “over there” but they aren’t limited by time and space as we are so it doesn’t hinder their spiritual process at all. They “hear” our call when we think about them and then here they are! But what do we often do? Continue to miss them. And yet, they are right THERE with us. Sometimes we even feel them but then consider it nothing more than our imagination and so dismiss it. Damned straight. It is our imagination, our world of imagery within our spiritual “mind”, where everything truly exists! For real.

So anyway, I tell people who write in and worry about their ghosts becoming evil and trying to possess them (like all the movies and horror books like to depict) is no, I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen. One other thing I’ve learned over time is that WE CONTROL OUR OWN ENERGY FIELD! Have you ever seen the film or read the book The Celestine Prophecy? This movie explains the concept of personal energy fields (auras) quite well! Nothing and no one can overwhelm us and take control unless we do nothing to prevent it. Drugs, alcohol, mental and physical illness can weaken our defense certainly. BUT, that doesn’t mean we can’t learn to regain control! Exorcism is about good, positive energy forcing out the lower vibrational energy of negative spirits. The one thing that can block positive energy is NEGATIVE THOUGHTS and NEGATIVE BELIEFS! That’s it. Conquer that and the world…as they say…is your oyster.

To conclude. Ghosts exist and they are in fact EVERYWHERE. They don’t just hang out in old houses where someone died or spots where someone was murdered. We notice it more in those places because of the energy imprint left behind by those incidents. Energy, as you probably know, canNOT be destroyed. So, when our emotions flare up like happens during trauma, the energy bursts created during the incident are blasted out and become stored within the denser energy masses nearby…houses and other physical objects. Thus, when entering a house or touching an object that contains the stored energy of emotional trauma, we often can feel it. That’s because our spiritual body (which is a form of energy) is reacting to the energy stored within! This is why those places are easier for us to encounter paranormal phenomena. The energy there is high and our expectations of spirit activity draws the spirits to us! But the fact is spirits are all over the place. They truly are looking for someone to notice them just like Patrick Swayze’s character in the movie Ghost! In fact, since Halloween is fast approaching, the custom of donning costumes was started when people sought to disguise themselves from the spirits they knew were out enforce on Halloween night (the one night of the year when the veil between life and death is at it’s thinnest!). Like Hollywood likes to portray, some believed the spirits out roaming around on that night were out to possess their body so by making themselves look like anything but themselves, they hoped the spirits would pass them on by!

It was my own disappointment with what was available for ghost stories that I started writing them myself. Also, I wanted to share, through story telling, some of the wonderful things I’ve learned about spirit over the years! My beliefs are varied and touch on several religious schools of thought. I have to tell you though, in my honest opinion, there isn’t any ONE religion that has it ALL right. It’s like the truth of the matter is spread throughout every one of them! The reason EVERYONE doesn’t agree on EVERYTHING is because we are all at varying degrees of spiritual discovery and our knowledge is based on what we’ve learned SO FAR.

I really wanted to explore my beliefs in my book Be Still, My Love by having a medium go through tragedy. I wanted to show through storytelling that nothing is final and that there is always hope of finding happiness…no matter what! Then through Hidden Voices I wanted to explore a supernatural mystery that has plagued my hometown for centuries but also explore my character’s growing mediumship abilities. The third book Vanquishing Ghosts was written to show that no matter how bad the ghost, WE are in control not THEM, and vanquishing them CAN be done! The next book in the series “Rosemary’s Ghosts” (to be released in early October!) is more focused on the psychological aspects of hauntings and the conceptions many of us have about heaven and hell. I do, after all, have my own thoughts about that as well! All of these books share beliefs that I have come to accept and beliefs I am still exploring. I find myself learning things right along with my main character Tess! Honestly, all those books pretty much wrote themselves. I literally sat down at the keyboard and obediently started typing. I had no clear idea of how the story was going to pan out and end until it actually panned out and ended! And yet they all fit into each other so well. I love how it all works like that. It truly fascinates me. But then, I honestly believe that “spirit” is lending a hand!

Okay, I think I’ve rambled on enough for this post! Have you seen “The Conjuring”? What did you think of it? What do you think about any of the points I bring up? Really, there’s nothing more satisfying than people sharing ideas! It gets the “spirit” flowing! (smile)

By the way, there is one book I’ve read that depicts a “True Haunting” (it also is the title for the book!). It really is much more realistic about what a typical haunting is all about! It’s a quick easy read and if ghosts interest you, you’ll probably find this one rather interesting! Just don’t expect “over the top” craziness like the Hollywood movies go for.

Until next time…Peace Out and Blessings to all!!
